College Student Credit Cards for College Students

Some years ago it was unheard of to hear of a young person owning a credit card with no credit history who also happened to be unemployed. Today this is more than a reality as thousands of college students enrolled in accredited colleges can qualify for a number of quality credit card solutions from major card providers.

As time progresses and competition for this niche increases the rewards of student credit cards are getting better and better. Gone are the days of having to settle for high fees, even higher APRs and no real benefits of using the card. Today a college student can rack up rewards on their purchases that can be exchanged for cash, merchandise, airline miles, entertainment and more.

Credit card providers understand all too well the challenges that college students face and so the rewards of some programs are used to alleviate some the challenges faced. They allow students to earn rewards on purchases made at bookstores, restaurants, movie theaters, record stores and more. Aside from that the no annual fee means that students get to reap the rewards without losing the much needed money in their pockets. The fact that these types of rewards are available to students who are seen as higher risks by credit card providers show how far the credit card industry has come.

The 0 percent introductory APR that other providers offer is another bonus that students enjoy. With introductory periods that run from six months to one year students can use the extended interest free grace period to pay tuition or fund books and other materials to get through college. The best part is that even during the no interest period there is an opportunity to earn one point for every dollar that can be cashed in for much needed supplies.

The emergence of college student credit cards can be attributed to the value that credit card providers large and small place on college students. They recognize the risks involved but they also understand that the rewards are even bigger than the risks since a lot of college students hold on to and continue to use these cards for many years after they graduate. Even if the card is traded in for more viable solutions graduates entering the world of work often look for upgraded solutions from the providers of their college credit cards.

As much as the providers stand to gain the real value is gained by students. The line of credit that is extended to them during this important but trying phase of their lives helps with purchasing books, food, gas, travel and pay for tuition and housing. Rewards are certainly great and while there is no other time in life will they be more appreciated the chance to build a positive future still remains the biggest and best benefit of a college student credit card.
